As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, we are working on getting our family back on track with Come Follow Me. We had fallen off the consistency bandwagon a bit, but I’m happy to report that we met together for short, simple lessons every single day last week!
What’s working for us right now:
We have kids with a wide range in ages (14, 10, 5 and 2.5). Lately we’ve been meeting together for a quick study session right before the Littles go to bed. We watch a video, or read a section of scriptures and discuss it for a few minutes as a family. It doesn’t last long, but we have been able to learn together and the consistency adds up.
If you started off the year with big plans are now they are just not happening, please consider simplifying your lessons and shaking up the routine if needed. Different seasons of life require different routines.
We also listen to podcasts in the car occasionally. (My favorites are Stumbling as I Follow and the Scripture Stories podcast)
Because I am so much better at accomplishing something if I have a plan ahead of time, I have started adding a short, simple plan for the week to my bullet journal. There is no way we could possibly cover all the material available each week. So I choose one or two things each day and we are content with small and simple progress.
This week’s plan includes (all resources linked below):
Monday: Read John 12:1-8. Discuss How we show our love for the Savior.
Tuesday: Read Jesus Knows Your Name by Elder Baxter
Wednesday: Read Matthew 22: 34-40. Two great commandments. Watch excerpt of President Kimball.
Thursday: Explain Phylacteries. Watch video.
Friday: Read Matthew 21:12-17. Watch Jesus Christ cleanses Temple video.
Saturday: Read Zacchaeus Repents (below)
Sunday: Read Matthew 22:15-22. What are some of the “things that are God’s”?
A lot of the things we’ll be studying are listed below. Please note, the lesson schedule I’ve put together is designed for our family specifically. It may not fit your needs, but I have listed lots of other ideas and resources below that may be perfect for you!
It can be very easy to get caught up in searching the internet for the best possible lesson resources (trust me! I get it.) My advice is to pray about what simple truths will bless your family each week and make a list of topics/resources you’d like to cover, and then leave it at that.
